I grew up on a small farm south-east of Elkton, graduating from Lakers in 1961.
Bob Thuemmel and I were married in 1962 and lived on our dairy farm on Thuemmel Road for 43 years. After Bob retired, we moved to a lakefront cottage just west of Port Austin. I am now using the Thuemmel Road house for real estate business.
Bob and I have four children. Mark is married to Vickie, they have two children, Zachary, age 8, and Stephanie, age 6. They live in Sterling Heights. Our daughter Valerie lives in Port Austin. Our Son Troy is married to Laurie, they have two boys Conner and Logan. They live east of Bad-Axe. Our Son, Christopher is in Nashville Tenn. He gets home often and we enjoy the drive down to see him.
When our children were young, I was a full-time mom and farm wife. I was very active in my church, school activities and The Farm Bureau.
With Bob's encouragement, I ran for county commissioner in 1988. I was a Huron County Commissioner for 12 years.
After retiring from county politics, I attended Delta College to take real estate classes and go my state agent's license in 2002.
I continued to take real estate classes. I am a Graduate of Realtor's Institute courses I, II, and III. I took the Realtor's Accredited Buyer's Representation course this past year and a 5 day course to prepare for my state Broker's exam, which I passed in June 2005. I received my Broker's State license in Early October 2005 and started Martha Thuemmel Realty.
I enjoy the real estate business; the organization, the research, and helping people reach their goals. I am eager and ready. This is going to be fun.
